Hawaii Civil Ceremony

Hawaii wedding Licensed venues

There are many venues in the Hawaii for weddings such as hotels, halls, stately homes, restaurants and even football clubs that have been granted licenses to hold civil weddings, although some may only allow you to get married there if you will hold your reception there as well. As soon as you have selected your venue you will need to contact the Registration Officers who need to be present for the ceremony. Don't leave this too late as they can get very booked up. In Oahu on Honolulu the office opens at 800 am and closes at 4:00pm, it can take from to minuets to 30 minuets depending on the day and time you arrive there

The Ceremony
The marriage ceremony usually takes about 20 minutes. Led by the registrar the bride and groom 'solemnly declare' that there is no reason why they cannot lawfully marry and they call upon those present to witness the marriage. The couple sign the register in the presence of two witnesses before departing for the reception.
If you wish to have music or readings during the ceremony you need to remember that they must be of a non-religious nature. You may be asked by the registrar to provide a list of the items that you have selected so that they can be approved.

What to wear
There are no formal dress codes for civil ceremonies, although the bride and groom usually wear something casual. The bride might choose a long or short dress, with or without a hat, and the groom usually wears a suit with a buttonhole. Themed weddings are becoming more popular, so the couple (and their guests) could wear medieval costumes, or anything else that their imagination allows.
